Jill Carter, the Leatherperson who brought the African American Proverb "Each One Teach One" to the Leather Community and is also the first Black IMsL has long deserved her flowers. She is the Sir Leon Strange Memorial Award Winner 2023 along with many numerous other awards in our community. She has elevated the voices of everyone in the Leather Community and is a beacon for BIPOC.

 

Jill along with her wife (an icon in her own right) "Mama" vi Johnson, founded and manage the Carter/Johnson Library and Collection, where Leather stories, history and footprints come alive! We encourage anyone who has been touched by Jill to come show her some love and support by attending this event via Zoom on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
